Can I Have Your Tweetograph? How Do You Sign Off?

Posted on 4:40 am

I experienced something new tonight.  While sifting through some of the crap in my Twitter feed I came across a post written by @loic via his blog post Twitter Robots Killed Me (And Why I Apologize I May Not Be Following You Anymore and I think he nailed it on the head.  I am not going to get into detail about it you can check it out there but it basically comes down to what the title says.  He had so many followers and he felt obligated as I did, to follow everyone in return and his Twitter account eventually became unusable due to the spam.  It spread to his Facebook and LinkedIn account so you get the drift.

Anyway I posted a comment addressing the issue of auto-dm’s and as I was about to put my web address into the URL field I noticed something….

If you look closely (I edited the placement of the URL for demonstration purpsoes) you’ll see that some commenters are beginning to use their social networking addresses to sign off on comments.  What a brilliant idea.  Friggin awesome!

Why is this a friggin awesome brilliant idea?  Because of the speed at which stuff spreads through social networking.  I have had this blog for close to three years and I have been busting my ass to build a subscriber base via my rss feeds and Feedburner and it’s been an uphill battle to reach the average 70 subscribed users.  And in the span of 2 weeks my Twitter base is nearing 100!  That is 100 subscribers to each and everything I have to say, that I did not have before I began using twitter.  Due to the viral nature of twitter I can see how using your social network address to sign off with is so much more beneficial than using just your website or blog address. >

So with all of the above said, I left my f irst tweetograph and it will not be my last.

My question now is:  Have you started using your social network address as your signature when commenting and how has it affected you?  Or do you still prefer to use your blog or website address and why?

Digg it StumbleUpon del.icio.us Google Yahoo!

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

    Hey Dan,

James (formerly from Netfirms), saw this video and thought you might get a kick out of it. I remember our conversation about how cheesy his lines are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sarYH0z948

CSI Miami at its best :)
