An Internet Addicts Dream Come True

25 July 2008 19 views No Comment

This is a review that I am delighted to write about.  With the exception of travel time to and from work, meal times and the odd extra curricular activities I spend every waking moment in front of a computer.  If it’s not at work troubleshooting and debugging other peoples’ problems I’m at home pounding away at this thing they call a blog.

I’m a reactionary person.  I wait for stuff to happen then decide what I want to do.  It sucks.   Here is where that changes.  While I’ve always been a geek with computers since before they had the web I’ve only recently begun to eat, sleep and breathe the internet and I can honestly tell you that I feel the pain.  The hurt.  My neck, shoulders, back and hands.  I don’t take pain meds because they do absolutely nothing but make you dependent on them.  Money down the tube and soon you’ll be eating out of that tube.

Most days you’ll find me sitting in the same position for hours on end and I can never seem to figure out what to do with my arms and hands.  I bend by elbow and rest my head against my fist or I sit on one hand with one leg up on the chair and by the time I realize what’s happened it’s 4 hours later and I feel like Captain Hook with my bent wrist too aching to bend it back to normal.  I’m worried I’ve either caused damage or am on the path to some nasty Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Only recently I’ve noticed that same feeling I get while computing, when not computing.  That’s a bad thing especially for someone who wants to work from a laptop until retirement!

I have found the perfect toy to keep my free hand busy while I work and play and get my busy hand some carpal tunnel relief.  IMAK has created some awesome products for people who suffer from CTS and others who looking for preventive measures.  Among many things they’ve got the ergonomically correct Smartglove to relieve arthritis and carpel tunnel pain as well as help prevent it.  The toy I mentioned above however is the Stress Ball.  It’s filled with beads to massage your hand while you squeeze and squash it.  It’ll hopefully keep me from ruining my wrist any further.  I’ll let you know how I feel next month!
