How to Survive as a Blogger

social spark interfaceLet’s look at the whole situation.  Two years ago you registered a domain name with the intention of creating the next greatest website.  You’ve put sweat and tears into your masterpiece and slaved over your keyboard for countless hours trying to defeat bloggers block and come up with fresh stuff for your reader(s).  After the long haul you realize the following; Besides yourself you receive almost no traffic and despite placing some clever advertisements you have yet to make a dime.

I have sat down and stared at my monitor at times trying to figure out where the people are and how to connect myself with an audience.  The answer: Social Networking.  Some people blog as a hobby and others blog to make money but either way you look at it you are entertaining someone for the time they are on your site.  Entertaining on your website can be compared to throwing a party or a get together at your home.  You want to provide things for your guests that they will enjoy and you want to show off stuff that you like.

I believe I have stumbled upon a great concept for internet users of all shapes and sizes.  SocialSpark is a vast social networking community comprised of both Bloggers and Advertisers.  The basic concept is to connect bloggers with like minded bloggers and to provide them with an opportunity to earn some extra cash while they blog and give exposure.social spark profile

As a Blogger you have the ability to create yourself a profile where you provide information about yourself and your blog.  This information is then made available to all other bloggers and advertisers on the SocialSpark Network.  You can then freely surf through the network and begin to review other bloggers and start adding friends to your profile essentially creating a network of sites connected to you.  Just like the real world you mingle and interact with people, meet new friends and join new groups bloggers must connect.  This is a key point in existing in the blogosphere.

In order to promote yourself and others they provide you with the ability to trade posts with other bloggers via a feature called Sparks.  A Spark is an offer that is put up by a blogger asking you to write a review for or similar post about something on their website in exchange for the same about you.  This provides permanent link exchanges on other websites which in turn increase your search engine rankings and traffic.

The juicy part of Social Spark is that advertisers such as Microsoft, Cisco and others also provide offers for bloggers to write about and in exchange for your posts you will be paid anywhere from $5-$100 for a post.  Social Spark differs from other advertising Networks you have absolute control over which advertisements you want to write about.  An advertiser places an offer and provides information on what the post should contain.  You are encouraged to write your own post about the product or service and submit it for review.  Once approved you get paid.  It is that simple. You are not forced to write about anything you don’t want to.  It is up to you to approach an advertiser through their offer and request a slot.

This is no different than the thousands of websites around providing banner advertisements and google adsense blocks.  Sorry that was a lie.  It is different because with Social Spark you choose what you advertise and also get to provide a commentary about the products and services you love.  You are also not reliant on how many clicks or impressions you receive.  You get paid for your opinion.
