I started my Bachelors program in April of 2008. I filled out all of my forms, submitted my FAFSA and appplied for laons to pay for the next nine months. At the time I completed my FAFSA they denied any grant funds. Six months later I got an award letter from Everest letting me know that I was aearded Pell money ($2,400++). I went straight ot the college to see how I can get these funds. All of my education was paid with loans, both Stafford and private. The financial aid Nazi (director) tried to strongarm me in to letting my funds sit in their account. After three times and in plain English letting this woman know that I wanted ALL excess funds on my accoutn sent to me she reluctantly gave me my Title IV form to complete so that the funds could be sent back to me. I had not heard anything in two weeks so I called a friend in the FA office who said that the form I signed was not on file. I came back to the school and filled out another and she scanned it in. Everest University Lakeland Campus President Ms. Lamoreaux apologized for the inconvenience that I had experienced and would look in to when my funds would be sent ot me. She then contacts me to let me know that my FA would be sent directly to my private lender to pay down that loan. First, according to the Federal Government, Pell funds can NOT be used to do this but they are sticking to their plan even though all excess should come to me. Next they are telling me that I don’t have any exces on my accoutn because of their contract with the GENESIS Lending Group that holds my private loan. Apparently if you have a private loan with them through Everest they seem to think they have a right to any and all funds on your account. It could be a returned book and they are going to send the funds to this lender regardless of what you want.

My story gets better. This past semester I ran in to some legal issues and health issues and I just could not concentrate on my studies. I emailed my drop form to my online coordinator and then handed her a formal signed copy. She said she was going to get working on it and I did not think twice about it. I never logged back in to class as my intentions were to drop classes this semester. This would have caused another credit on my account as well. Last week I get an email from my online coordinator wanting to find out how my classes are going. I freaked out! I spooke with her directly and she said she never received my form. I reminded her that I handed it directly to her and she even told me she would take care of it. Now she is calling me a liar and said there was nothing she could do now. I would be responsible for the course costs even if I dropped the courses now or I completed and took an “F”.

I can say, from personal experience, that EVEREST UNIVERSITY Lakeland Campus, Ms. Silvina Lamoreaux, Ms. Miriam Wilson and anyone who continues to support these actions are nothing but a bunch of thieves! I have contacted the Department of Education and I am waiting to hear back from them. I pretty much figure I am going to begin legal action against this University. If they have done this to me they have done this to others.

I understand your issue. It is a problem with institutions like Everest. I think it is important to conduct a lot of research before choosing any school or degree program. One of the major things to consider is the accreditation of the school. The cost of a college education is certainly high.
By most standards, however, it will cost more not to earn a degree than it costs to go to school.
The important thing to remember is to consider that a degree should be able to give you the opportunity to realize the beginning of whatever your dream or goal is.
