Serial Box Crime

This is the very first Dexter recap written by Natalie at TheKillerBlog.  I have to repost everything due to the database loss so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank her again.

Dexter features Michael C. Hall
as Dexter Morgan. He is a serial killer who was molded by his adopted
father to only kill bad people. He looks at the world with a detached
coolness one would expect from a serial killer, except that we also get
to see the front he puts on to the rest of the world, which includes
bringing dough nuts to work and dating. Dexter also happens to work for
the Florida police as a forensic blood splatter expert.

In the pilot episode, we me Dexter’s sister, Debra. She is a foul-mouthed, but really nice vice cop who longs to get into the homicide division.

We also met Rita,
Dexter’s girlfriend. Rita has two kids, and Dexter thinks she is the
perfect girlfriend because she was raped, and thus does not want to
have sex.

Lt. Maria LaGuerta is Dexter’s boss. She has a thing for Dexter. Angel Batista is the detective who finds Dexter to be amazingly helpful, and Sgt. Doakes is very angry and is creeped out by Dexter for no apparent reason (that he can understand.)

Dexter has an interesting kill style- he will stalk his victim for a
while, and then he sets up a plastic-covered area, complete with
posters or evidence of his victim’s crimes. He likes to wrap his
victims in saran wrap, take a small sample of blood from their cheek as
a souvenir, and dismember them with surgical-grade cutting tools.

We were also introduced to the main back story (at least for a few
episodes). A serial killer (who is not Dexter) is on the loose in
Miami. He likes to take prostitutes and dismember them, and arrange
them in a bloodless style that reminded me of the Bodies Exhibition.
Dexter, who was impressed with the display of the victim, hypothesized
that the killing is probably being done in some kind of refrigerated
truck. When his sister tried to bring this to the captain’s attention,
the captain shot her idea down (the captain seems to hate Dexter’s
sister). Later, however, Dexter found and tailed a refrigerated truck,
only to have a human head hurled at him by the driver.

At the end of the episode, Dexter finds a Barbie doll in his
freezer, cut apart and neat little red bows wrapped around her to
simulate the victims. Dexter thinks the other serial killer is asking
to play.
